History:
Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices and can be dated back almost 7000 years to the Egyptians and Hebrews who used scented cinnamon oils in their worship rituals. Today it is still the most widely used incense in religious services. In the first century A.D. 350 grams of cinnamon was equal in value to over five kilograms of silver, about fifteen times the value of silver per weight. After murdering his wife Poppaca in 65 A.D, the Roman Emperor Nero (A.D 54-68) engaged in another of his wanton excess ordering a year's supply of Rome's cinnamon be burnt on her funeral pyre, seriously depleted the treasury reserves. During medieval times, it was used as a status symbol, due to its high price, to flavor meals and drinks. |

WHAT IS A DRAGON? The Komodo dragon is a venomous species of lizard that inhabits the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang in Indonesia. It is the largest living species of lizard, growing to a length of 7 to 10 feet and weighing around 150 pound. They eat mostly carrion, but also hunt and ambush prey including invertebrates, birds and mammals. The Komodo dragons lay about twenty eggs in abandoned nests that incubate for seven to eight months. Young vulnarable Komodo dragons dwell in trees, safe from predators and cannibalistic adults. They take around three to five years to mature, and may live as long as fifty years. They are protected under Indonesian law and can be seen in Komodo National Park. |

Geckos are small to average sized lizards belonging to the family Gekkonidae, found in warm climates throughout the world. Geckos are unique among lizards in their vocalizations, making chirping sounds in social interactions with other geckos. An estimated 2,000 different species of geckos exist worldwide, with many likely yet to be discovered. The name stems from the Indonesian/Javanese word Tokek, inspired by the sound these animals make. The Malay word for gecko is cicak. |
